DG Visit and more Twinning

The District Governor (DG) visit was very productive and some great ideas were exchanged. DG Annie Steijn was treated to lunch at the Vilakazi Restaurant in Soweto. After lunch the group went to the African Children Feeding Scheme (ACFS) center in Jabavu.

The ACFS feeds 31,000 children at 13 facilities around Johannesburg. Two Rotary Clubs (New Dawn and the Rotary Club of Lake Elmo, Minnesota) will start a pilot project with ACFS at the Pimville center. They will build a 120 bird laying unit and use the eggs collected to supplement the sandwiches handed out to the children. This idea was started by our own in-house AG Jankees Sligcher.

Once sustainability is proven, more units will be build at other centers. The aim is to have self sustained units around the centers. People attending the meeting was DG Annie, DG Representative Steve Margo, President Steve du Plessis and Past President Paul Kasango.

We have received our Twinning certificate from the Rotary Club of Lake Elmo in Minnesota. President Tony Haider of RC Lake Elmo is very excited about our joint venture and hope our clubs will have a long and productive relationship.
