In journalism they say a picture is worth a thousand words which is just as well, because this week we're telling the story of the Rotary Club of Johannesburg New Dawn in photographs.
The club welcomed Julian Nagy as president for the Rotary year 2022/2023 while at the same time thanking and lauding Ian Widdop for presiding for two long, Covid hit years. It was a labour of love, all the more remarkable for the many successes chalked up along the way.
The Parkview Golf Club did us proud with a curry buffet evening and great service.
It's official ... Judy Sligcher pinning the president's pin on Julian Helene Bramwell with Ian Widdop and Carol Stier, who announced the Paul Harris FellowsThere was also the announcement of seven new Paul Harris Fellows and the induction of two new members and handing over Glen Meyer's induction kit after he had been inducted officially at the meeting at the National School of the Arts two weeks ago.
Helene Bramwell joined the ranks of Paul Harris members for her tireless work with and for Donate a Loo; Captain Velani Buthelezi for his work at the Salvation Army and Llewellyn Leonard for being an international eco-warrior.
Velani Buthelezi became a Paul Harris FellowOther honourees were Judy Symons for all the effort she puts in at the 5 Cees, at the Johannesburg Children's Home and latterly the NSA, amongst many other good deeds; Paul Kasango for years and years of leadership at the Woodside Sanctuary; Joan Sainsbury, who couldn't attend, for her work at Leeuwkop Prison amongst many, many other good deeds and I even got one for doing this blog.

of each other's different identities, I praise you all for your commitment to a shared future".
He also thanked the eleven interim presidents for helping share the load of the presidency over the past year.
Julian Nagy spoke of his first encounter as a Rotary exchange student in Middleburg (fortunately in the USA and not Mpumalanga or the Eastern Cape) and said he looks forward to "a year where we can do so many great things".
More than 50 members and friends and family attended a great curry buffet and quality fellowship true Rotary style.

Wednesday wasn't quite the end of the Rotary week as the Donate a Loo Golf Day was on Friday, held with the tireless help of Mike MacDonald, Andy Ostle, Adele Dabbs, Helene Bramwell and the rest of their team, wearing their Donate a Loo and Rotary hats. By all accounts it was a great success.
Next Week: President Julian plans to use his first meeting to explain the club structure for the year ahead and to introduce his first board.
A Thought for the Week: If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. - Maya Angelou (1928 - 2014)
