It's all change at New Dawn with Julian Nagy taking over as new president and presiding over his first meeting.
It was strictly face to face as the Polycom wasn't available to allow online members to join in. Many apologies for the inconvenience, but it will be back this week for the meeting.
Last Wednesday was quite a jam-packed meeting with the induction of new members and planning discussions for the new Rotary year, which stretches from July until the end of June next year.
A number of guests also attended: Weza Solange, Jack Young, Jeannette Horner, Francis de Jongh, Mpho Mogotsi and Lesedi Khanyile were all welcomed at the meeting.
President Julian handed over to Paul Chinn to speak about World Cleanup Day, an event celebrated all over the world. On 17 September the club, along with about 25 organisations, will be cleaning up sections of the Braamfontein Spruit, as can be seen on the map above. Our section is the bit that runs through the Parkview Golf Club.
Other organisations taking part include the Greater Kyalami Concervancy, Melville Residents Association, Parkhurst Village Residents Assiciation, City Parks, Pikitup, Jozi Trails and the Rotary Club of Rosebank.
The cleanup is a New Dawn initiative, under the environmental team of Paul and wife Babette Gallard using the banner of End Plastic Soup.
There will be a party afterwards at Delta Park, for which sponsors are needed. Any suggestions?
It creates a great networking and PR opportunity for New Dawn.
President Julian emphasised that everything the club does needs to be mapped to the club strategy and said that the strategy document will be emailed to all members.
The club vision is to make a difference in the lives of young people in Jozi and to positively impact the lives of 5000 people by 2025.
A club assembly will be held shortly to discuss where the club is going and to look for solutions and discuss goals.
He asked that this year be a year of action for the club.
Two new members were inducted into the club: Nyami Khanyile and Gertrude Myaka and President Julian then handed over the Paul Harris certificates that arrived after the announcement of the new crop of Paul Harris Fellows at the induction last week.
Other members who were at the meeting to get certificates were Joan Sainsbury, Judy Symons and Paul Kasango.
