A Feast of Colour and of Curry

If the curries were colourful last week, the New Dawners were almost even more so at the 5th Wednesday curry evening in Craighall Park.

It was a timely reminder that Rotary is as much about fellowship as it is about service to humanity.
The blog this week unashamedly celebrates that fellowship, proof that we're not too old to have fun!
Ian Widdop is all smiles before his first (and last) sip of prickly pear hamper from the Marico
A most splendiferous gentleman. Like Ian (above) Graham Donet easily qualified for
 best-dressed curry sahib

It was a most colourful event and went very successfully thanks to the efforts of our host and hostess for the evening, Julian and Debbie Nagy.
The food was also great and a special thanks must go to Steve du Plessis, who sent a very tasty beef curry even though he and Jenine couldn't make the party at the last minute.
The host with the most. Julian also did the theme proud (apart from also cooking the lamb curry) but i don't think I'd qualify for the most convincing Indian. Maybe that's why I'm the current chief! (How's that for mixing metaphors
Here's a real chief ... Ronnie Kasrils proudly displays two badges from the Khyber Regiment of Pakistan, given to him by the regiment in his days as a cabinet minister. With him are Ian and wife Amina Frense, looking very colourful
Lucille Blumberg, who made a delicious vegetarian curry, helps herself to some of the chicken curry I made
Amina and Jankees Sligcher certainly added a lot of colour to the evening
It was great to see Zena there after quite a long absence from regular meetings due to work (and child-rearing) constraints! And no, she isn't wearing a plate on her head
The bottle of Tokai wine
One of the highlights of the evening was a bottle of Tokai wine from Hungary that Julian fetched from his cellar. `everyone made a contribution in exchange for a small glass of two of this delicious dessert wine. We liked it so much that after paying R180 for the staff, there was R650 left over for the kitty.

Host Julian compares funny hats with Greg and Debbie Smith
Jankees and Amina with Adriaen Sligcher, who is in business with his father

As we can all see, a good time was had by all. Thanks to all the other contributors and to everybody who brought wine and other drinks. It all helped to keep the cold away.

Wednesday's meeting
Carol informs me that there is no speaker for Wednesday and I thought it would be a good opportunity to use the meeting to take stock of where we are as a club and start planning for upcoming events.
June birthdays
Steve du Plessis (3rd; we heard it was a good one!)
     Bob Wahl (6th)
     Carin Holmes (14th)
