Girl Power Rocks ... and Rules!

Last week Paul and I were the only two males at the Rotary New Dawn table, surrounded by a bevy of beauties! Well, that's what it felt like, in any case. Just ask Paul.
A bit of arithmetic confirmed a trend in the club.
But first, a bit of visual evidence.

New Dawn has often been at the forefront of change in the district, and this might become a trend for more clubs than just ours.
At the moment the average for District 9400 is about 40% women to 60% men. With 13 out of the present 20 members of New Dawn being women, we average 65%, a significant swing, seeing that the original membership of the club was more in line with the present district averages.
The club has, however, always had a fair representation of strong women in its ranks and kudos must go to Joan and Amina for putting their hands up to be president.
This raises an important question, though. Now that Jankees will be making way for a new president come July so that he can concentrate on the preparations for his year as District Governor, isn't it time for another woman as president? I'd say it definitely is. Who's willing?
A note to the club: The blog has gone out before the dinner for Ray Klinginsmith at the Bryanston Country Club, but please remember that Kate Rogan of Love Books in Melville is the speaker at Wednesday's meeting. Kate used to produce the Jenny Crwys-Williams Show on 702 and is a book fanatic. She'll be answering questions from Linda about how independent bookstores survive in a world of corporatization and of course the proliferation of electronic books.
A big thank you from the club: To all those who braved the East Rand for the Carnival City Macsteel Cycle Race, a very big thank you from those of us who couldn't make it. Special thanks go to Carol for taking over the arrangements at such short notice.
A thought for the week: After the game, the King and the pawn go into the same box. ~ Italian proverb
