Slow going

.... and so the year came to an end, and the new one is speeding on it's merry way to the end of another Rotary year. I must apologize for the late update but as it sometimes goes, life gets in the way.

New Pilot Project:

We have started a new pilot project with our twin club from Minnesota, RC Lake Elmo. The project is in Pimville, Soweto at a African Children Feeding Scheme (ACFS) site . ACFS is feeding about 31,000 children on a daily basis on 13 sites around Johannesburg. They get mostly bread with peanut butter and sometimes some milk as well. Children need more nutrition to grow in a healthy manner. One of our members PP Jankees came up with the idea to supply them with eggs, a nice little nutrition bomb so to speak.

So here we are, planning to install laying unit of 250 hens to establish the sustainability and viability threshold of such a unit. The project will serve a dual purpose, one is the supplementation of eggs to the children's diet. The second is to determine the correct size of  a sustainable unit. Once this is done, we can increase the size and also roll out the project to the other ACFS sites. Well done to PP Jankees for the great idea and to Albert Planten for giving us the support from their club in Minnesota.

As the saying goes, "Watch this space!!"

Cycle Race: The Fast One

We have had a long day the 25th of January with the Fast One cycle race down under (Meyerton) It turned out to be a pretty hot day with little shade. A big thank you to all the members who supported the event, well done ladies and gents!!

President Elect:

Our PE is now also an DGPR (District Governor Personal Representative) Congratulations Jankees, we are sure you will perform admirable in your duties as DGPR!!

Cycle Race 2: Carnival City:

On the 22nd of February we had 8 members out of bed before the sun came up to marshal at the Mac Steel / Carnival City cycle race. The race started at 06h00 and we were back home jut around 10h00. The race was exceptionally well organised this year and we had metro police coming out of the woodwork.

Preventing motorist from traveling to their destinations made for some interesting conversation pieces, and I am sure Paul can tell a story or two.

Training:

Our president went off to Botswana to do some training with Shirley Downie in Gabarone and Selebi Phikwe. The Rotarians in Botswana are a very friendly bunch and there was not much rest to be had during the trip. The overall response was absolutely fantastic and the trip a huge success.

PE Jankees attended the DGPR and AG's training session in Brits this past weekend. The report back was awesome!! Great session and lots was learned.

Incoming club officers need to register for the PETS traiing on the 7th of March in Krugersdorp. There is always something new to learn.

Sign:

Our meeting sign is up on the wall at the main entrance to the Golf Club. A Photo will be added soon.
