Membership

Speaker on Membership and other news

Yesterday's meeting was at the old venue again and we had Annemarie Mostert, our District Membership Chair talking to us about membership.

Annemarie Mostert, D9400 Chair: Membership

A little history about her:
Annemarie is the CEO of Lebone Cleaning Services and was the Head of Protocol and Public Relations for ABSA Bank. She serve on various boards and is a founding member of Sešego Cares, a South African NPO established by volunteers to make a sustainable difference in the lives of vulnerable people. Their ethos is based on the spirit of Ubuntu.

Annemarie is a co-author and contributor for the Inspirational Woman @ Work, a book about 50 inspirational woman n South Africa. Among them are woman like Mrs. Graca Machel, Helen Morgans, Basetsana Kumalo to name but a few. She is also one of three woman in the world who received the Chayil Woman of Influence Award. She received hers in October 2013 in Canada.

Her Rotary career was just as event full. In 2005 she was awarded the Rotary International Public Relations Award of the World, as well as the Service Above Self Award. She is a Paul Harris Fellow with three Sapphires.Past President of Morningside Rotary Club, President Elect of the Rotary E-Club of Southern Africa D9400 and the District Chair for Membership.

We received a clear picture on the way forward in District and also how we as a club may be able to help achieve those goals. Members are still busy with work (or maybe its the final chill in the air) and attendance is still lacking. It was Paul's birthday and I think he is getting more matured now :-) We were glad to see Lucille again as she came to recharge her batteries for the rest of the week and some more Ebola questions.

We have received some nice pictures of the RC of Lüderitz playing a bit of "Kegelen" I just cannot decide if President Ulf likes what he sees, or if he is contemplating throwing the ball out the door. This wooden lane is one of the last of its kind but still in great condition. The ghost town Kolmanskuppe used to have one back in the days too.

On Friday about 9 of us are leaving for Middelburg and the Greatest Train Race. You can read more about them on their website " Greatest Train Race"The event is taking place for the 28th year and still going strong. Saturday morning will see us all at our duty points at 05h00.

Please remember next week we are meeting at Parkview Golf Club to test-drive the venue with a speaker. Have a great weekend and for those heading out of town, go safe.
