It was all about the pizza last week, when the regular meeting for the fifth Wednesday of the month was exchanged for a pizza evening at the Parkview Golf club to give members who can't always make it to early morning meetings a chance to catch up a bit.
The evening was a great success, thanks to the Parkview Golf Club, whose staff hauled out the pizza oven especially for the occasion and made sure we had comfortable seating.

Jankees Sligcher enjoying the company of Firdoze Bulbulia, Amina Frense and Ronnie Kasrils |
They served us 28 pizzas and well, we won't disclose how many bottles of wine, beer and other drinks for the sake of decorum. Suffice to say it was enough for everyone to have a fun evening.
There were a number of guests, amongst them people like Ronnie Kasrils, who has become a firm friend over the years. Ronnie's new book should be ready before the end of the year he says and he has promised to give us signed copies for the Christmas auction.
Ronnie and Amina brought Firdoze Bulbulia along, a filmmaker.

Another special guest was Hannes Dressler, a previous visitor to the club and a member of the Rotary Club of Moscow.
Hannes works for SAP and has relocated to Johannesburg, which means that there is good news in that he will be joining New Dawn. He'll be inducted at the meeting of 21 August.
Hannes brought his Russian wife, Katya, and their daughter, Liza, to the gathering.

This week it's back to basics and we have two speakers tomorrow, both representing the youth: Minenhle Majola, president of our Rotaract club and exchange student Luba Montcomble from France, who will be accompanied by her South African host, Cara Kotze. Cara will visit France at the end of the year as a short-term exchange student.

The Rotaract club meeting at Twickenham Guest House. From left they are: Gifty Efua Koufie, Megan Govender, Alfred Kulunga and Renaldy Beyeme. On the right from the back are Tafadzwa Shava, Minenhle, Nadine Mitchell and Victoria Adekomaya |
We've invited the members of the Rotaract club to join us for breakfast tomorrow to hear their president speak. Minenhle was an inspiring speaker both at his induction and at Judy Sligcher's induction at the Nyoka Ridge Vulture Restaurant on 20 July, so his talk is something to look forward to.
Back to the pizza evening: David Marshall and his partner, Hannah-Marie, popped in at Parkview for a pizza and a drink before leaving for a show. David will be the speaker at the meeting of 14 August where he will be talking about their recent boat trip on the Volga River between St. Petersburg and Moscow.

There's an invitation to an International Vulture Day event in September at Hartbeespoort from the Rotary Club of Brits-Hartbeespoort and others for members who want to follow up on this worthy cause after our visit for Judy Sligcher's induction.
The details are as follows:
A Thought for the Week: Talent does what it can; genius does what it must.
