Getting Into the Swing of Things

It's all systems go, drivers at the ready for the annual Golf Day on Friday.
It has been a hectic few weeks for some of the members, what with three days of Winex, the Macsteel Cycle race, selling raffle tickets and preparing for the big day on Friday.
Carol and Linda have born the brunt of this, but a very big thank you to everybody else who helped.

The Golf Day was the main focus of the board meeting yesterday as we're pushing as hard as possible to make it a record breaking year.
Parkview Golf Club, the setting for the annual Golf Day on Friday
A very big thank you to everybody who has organised golfers, hole sponsorships, prizes and who contributed to the Barrow of Booze, last reported to be overflowing with the good stuff.
The Golf Day is our biggest fundraiser by far. Last year we brought in almost R65 000, which came to R47 220 after expenses.
This year there is already almost R50 000 in the bank and the day hasn't even started!

The team selling raffle tickets have done exceptionally well, with over R18 000 already in the kitty after two days at the golf course and two at Parkview Spar. Last year the total takings for the raffle was R23 850.
We're expecting a bigger field of golfers and also have two fabulous prizes to auction off after the prize giving.
The brand new Weber Kettle Braai
The first one is a week timeshare at Champagne Sports Resort in the Drakensberg. This was donated by DG Jankees and DGA Judy Sligcher. District 9400 has held two Discons there in recent years and everybody who has been will agree that it is one of the best timeshare resorts in the country.
Carol Stier's sister has donated a Weber Braai, another fantastic prize, which will also be on auction.
Some of the Golf Day prizes for golfers
Amongst the prizes for golfers are bottles of prime wine from Winex, golfing paraphernalia, car rental vouchers, books, two rugs and hampers.
If you want to see the full array of prizes, make sure to be there on Friday!
For those who cannot be at the meeting tomorrow, the first golfers tee off at 11am, so those who are available will be at the Parkview course from 10am. The big need is to have people available for the prize giving after the golf, from about 6pm onwards.

Winex
Joan Donet has sent out invoices for those people who ordered wine at the meeting last week, so please pay as soon as possible. I'll bring the wine with to the meeting tomorrow, as it came out of club funds.
We spent a lot of time discussing the marshalling at cycle races at that meeting and the club came to a decision that we wouldn't be doing that again, mainly from a safety point of view, as I wrote in the blog last week.

Check them out! Mike MacDonald and Graham Donet at the meeting
Sexy in stripes! Ian Widdop and I share a grin
Somebody forgot to send DG Jankees the memo that the dress code was checks
 or stripes!
These decisions were ratified at the board meeting.
I have undertaken to write to the organisers of the Fast One race, which takes place in January, to tell them of the decision. We will let the Macsteel organisers know that we won't be back next year once they have paid us for this year!
Debbie Smith insisted on this photo of her with one of Carol and Nic Stier's dogs to prove
to her children that she does like dogs after all!
